Starting a Small Group

Things have been picking up a bit lately with Crew Community Church. I had a really good day of discussion and planning with our pastor, Josh Perry. We are preparing to begin a small group ministry that I hope will be a real source of spiritual growth for myself and the others involved. Josh has been meeting with me regularly over the past few months to develop a strategy and philosophy for our small groups at CCC.

We have been going through a fantastic workbook: Leading Life-Changing Small Groups. The author, Bill Donahue of Willow Creek Community Church, has learned from the successes and failures in his role as Director of Small Groups with Willow Creek. It's been a really valuable resource for us as we are focusing our vision for Crew's small groups.

Our vision is for Crew Community Church to be a church OF small groups and not merely a church WITH small groups. We see it as a vital and intimate part of spiritual growth in our ministry. I'm going to be leading one of our first small groups alongside my good friend, Paul Boekell. I'm really starting to get excited for it too! We are having an initial meeting on Monday night to get things rolling, and figure out some goals and plans for our group.

In other news, my brother's basketball team (Marshall University), came up short again tonight against Northern Illinois. On the bright side, he had a big game: 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks. Hopefully they can get things together and make some kind of MAC Tourney run in March.
